Raddish Sambar

This probably has a lot more indian ingredients, so apologies to those who don’t have the ingredients 🙂




Ginger and Garlic Paste – 1tbsp each

Curry leaves

Fresh Coriander

Sambar Powder


Mustard Seeds

Tamarind paste –  tsp


Dry Red chillies – a couple depending on taste


Salt to taste

Sambar Dhal

Chopping: Cut the onions lengthwise. Dice the tomatoes. Chop the coriander. Wash the curry leaves, and cut the raddish

Cooking the Dal: If you own a pressure cooker, wash the dal and cook it with enough water, a pinch of tumeric, and a clove or two of garlic. After a few whistles the dal should be done. If you don’t have a pressure cooker, just boil the dal, it just takes a bit longer, but it works fine

In a pot heat the oil, and when its hot enough, add the mustard seeds, jeera followed by the onions and let it cook until the onions get transparent

Next add the tomatoes, and 1tbsp each (or your measurement) of ginger and garlic paste

A few mins later add the sambar powder. You can get this in the store

Add a little water from the cooked sambar dal and let it all cook. When it comes to a boil add the Raddish. Let the raddish cook for a little bit and then add the dhal and the water

Sprinkle a bit of asafetida and add the required amount of salt

When its almost done add the tamarind paste and freshly chopped coriander

NOTE: I just added Raddish, cause we luuuuuv Raddish, but Sambar is made with a mixture of veggies, so feel free to use green beans, carrots, eggplant, potatoes
