It’s been ages since both K and I ate some peas – so earlier this week I got a packet of frozen peas. It’s been a busy week and somewhere in between we have been sleeping late, so I really wanted to make a quick curry. Well the pressure cooker came to the rescue for this one. It was done fast and it was just delicious. Not sure if the same curry exists out there, this is so totally my creation 🙂
Peas: 1.5 cups
Potatoes: 3 medium diced
Onion: 1 chopped
Tomato: 2 sliced
Green Chillies: 2 cut
Coriander: freshly chopped
Ginger and Garlic paste: 1 tbsp
Garam Masala: 1.5tbsp
Chilli Powder: 1 tbsp
Tomato Sauce – 2 tbsp
Salt to taste
Peel and chop the potatoes and add the potatoes and peas in a pressure cooker. Fill with water until submerged, add a little salt and cook for about a whistle. When the pressure comes down, drain and set aside.
Heat some oil in the same cooker. Add the mustard seeds and cumin seeds. When the mustard seeds starts popping add the onions and sauté. Next goes in the green chillies and the ginger and garlic paste. After a few minutes add the garam masala, chilli powder and tomatoes and the 2tbsp of tomato sauce. Mix well, add a cup of water and cook.
When it comes to a boil, add the cooked potatoes and peas, add 1 or 2 cups of water and some salt. Put the cooker lid back on and let it cook for a whistle again and turn off.
If you don’t have a pressure cooker, you can make this curry, it will just take a while 🙂
Serve this with some home-made chapathis like I did, or some pita or rice should work as well.
